About Karunasagar Foundation
An ocean of compassion — supporting the Bhikkhu Sangha, spreading the Dhamma, and serving the poor and the oppressed.
Why "Karunasagar"
"Karunasagar" means an ocean of Karuna — compassion. The Foundation was incorporated on 8th September 2025 as a Section 8 Non-Profit Company (Companies Act, 2013), registered out of Mumbai, to give structure to seva work that our monks and volunteers were already carrying out informally: training young Bhikkhus, helping monks who travel from village to village preaching the Dhamma, and standing beside families who have nowhere else to turn.
We work under the spiritual guidance of Guruvarya Bhante Vishuddhanand Bodhi Mahasthavir, and are organised on the ground by Bhante Karunasagar Bodhi and Pratibha Janjal. Alongside our welfare work, we also organise Dhamma Yatra pilgrimages — to Bodhgaya, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the historic Buddhist sites of Konkan — so that devotees can walk the path the Buddha himself once walked.
Our Mission
To nurture and support the Bhikkhu Sangha, propagate the Buddha's Dhamma across cities and villages, and stand beside the poor and the oppressed with direct, practical aid — robes and ration, financial help and a visit when it matters most.
Our Vision
A society where the Buddha's teaching of compassion reaches every village, where no monk is without support to continue his service, and where the underprivileged are not left to face hardship alone.
Our areas of seva work
Nine ongoing initiatives, carried out directly by our monks and volunteers across Mumbai and beyond.
